Went for a walk on the promenade this evening, as I should every evening, and I made an observation. I have troubles noticing the nice things out there - the sound of waves, the ocean breeze, the setting sun, because I am distracted by the not-so-nice things out there. I am distracted by the empty beer bottles lying on the ground, by the kids walking and playing on the railroad tracks, by the young couple walking their dog (no dogs allowed), by the smell of cigarettes and marijuana, and by the garbage and food left BESIDE the garbage can. I am distracted by lazy, inconsiderate, irresponsible people. They are making my beach unsightly.
Most of all, I am distracted by my becoming old and grumpy...
Really, so what! SO what if people play on the tracks, smoke on the promenade, and walk their dogs where they are not supposed to. Does it affect me? Not really.
So, next time you see a guy walking down the promenade wearing blinders, sunglasses, and a cap, that is me - I am trying to enjoy the view LOL

The Sun is Shining!
Wow! What a great couple of days it has been! The sun us shining, the heat is ON, and the clothes are off LOL. Walking around White Rock beach area is a lot like walking around Vegas, minus the beer - for the most part :)
Went for a swim in the ocean today, first time in a couple of years, here. After I brushed the scum off the surface (what is that anyways? wait don't tell me!) I went under and did a little snorkeling. Very nice, cold, visibility was about 30 feet, which is pretty good considering the tide had just come in. No fish or anything though.
When we were walking back, we stopped at Anies, the little convenience store downstairs, and talked with a couple of people in our condo. It was nice to meet up with them, and talk for a while about stuff - nothing heavy, just stuff.
Really loving it here. I put it into words today. If I can't be in Mexico, then I would rather be in White Rock than anywhere else.
Tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter - so far we haven't needed to buy an air conditioner yet - here's hopin'

Powell River
We are spending the weekend up the Sunshine Coast, at Stef's sister's place outside of Powell River. Thankfully the weather is cooperating, and it feels like summer is finally arriving. Judging by the upcoming weather forecast, it might actually be here!
Powell River is nice. Small, although there is a small Walmart, a Canadian Tire, even a Starbucks! Of course, there is a Tim Horton's, although I heard it was just built. Surprising, since Timmy's will open in ANY small town (in Canada).
Yesterday was our 22nd anniversary - yes we are old enough to be married that long. Didn't really do anything, but that is our way. Our 20th we had a big dinner with friends and family, and maybe we will do something for our 25th. Traditionally, 22nd anniversaries have no special gift, but the contemporary gift is copper, so maybe I will give Stefani a penny - for her thoughts of course!
Right now we are sitting in Monica's backyard, enjoying the warmth, eating Spitz, and talking. Well, I am blogging, obviously :) Hope y'all have a good 4th of July!
